Dr. Grant Stevens, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon, to Give Five Presentations to the Annual Meeting of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

Marina Plastic Surgery Associates’ Medical Director begins his series of talks with “A Review of 100 Consecutive Secondary Augmentation Mastopexies”

February 14, 2008—Dr. Grant Stevens, a Los Angeles plastic surgeon known for surgical innovation, clinical research and a drive to share knowledge with others in his field, is slated to give five presentations at the 19th Congress of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) in Melbourne, Australia, this week. One of the talks will cover techniques for breast lift surgery (mastopexy) for patients who have previously had breast augmentation.

Dr. Stevens believes the breast lift topic should be of special interest as plastic surgeons worldwide are increasingly seeing former breast augmentation patients now seeking a breast lift. Dr. Stevens explained, “Many patients who have had breast enlargement now desire a breast lift and breast implant size change.”

This observation was one of the motivations behind Dr. Stevens’ development of The Stevens Laser Bra. The Los Angeles plastic surgeon found that by using the patients’ own laser-treated skin as an “internal bra” to lift and support breast implants, he could create long-lasting results. The patient’s own tissue is permanently attached to the chest wall during the surgery, to give additional longevity and virtually prevent the possibility of deformity. The Stevens Laser Bra is also used to elevate newly-reduced breasts when women seek plastic surgery to decrease their size.

As more women with implants age, many find they need a breast lift to maintain a youthful figure. For these patients, Dr. Stevens and his colleagues at Marina Plastic Surgery Associates in Los Angeles frequently replace their implants—often exchanging older saline-filled models for cohesive silicone gel implants—and use the Stevens Laser Bra technique to gain the desired lift. This is the focus of Dr. Stevens’ first paper at the ISAPS meeting. His presentation will review 100 post-augmentation breast lifts, results of the largest patient group yet studied. Many of the procedures were performed with the Stevens Laser Bra technique, and all were done at Marina Plastic Surgery Associates by Dr. Grant Stevens.

In addition to his talk on secondary mastopexy, Dr. Stevens will give four other electronic presentations at the ISAPS annual meeting, all focused on patient safety. One reviews more than 500 abdominoplasty procedures performed over a 10 year period to demonstrate the safety of abdominoplasty as an outpatient procedure. Another presents the findings of a study of 400 patients that concluded combination abdominoplasty-liposuction procedures have a safety record equal to that of abdominoplasty alone. The third presentation covers the safety record of combination plastic surgery popularly known as “mommy makeovers” at Marina Plastic Surgery in Los Angeles. The fourth compares primary and secondary mastopexy augmentation.
